MURAL DESIGN
During the 2022-2023 academic year, the Graphic Design Association collaborated with the Library to transform an underutilized stairwell into a captivating experience, under the guidance of Nancy Miller and Joshua Duttweiler. Given free rein to ideate without constraints on concept, our team embraced my vision of "The journey of a TAMUCC student." Our goal was to craft an immersive narrative that unfolded with each step, culminating in the final mural. As the project's creative director, I guided the team in bringing this vision to fruition, overseeing the creation of the mural and coordinating a successful social media campaign for its launch.
FIRST STEPS
This project commenced when the library approached us to revamp the underutilized and neglected back stairway, aiming to enhance foot traffic. Our team divided into smaller groups to brainstorm ideas, ultimately selecting my concept. Focused on showcasing life at TAMUCC, it incorporates hidden easter eggs for students and creatively utilizes the staircase's height in the design.
SKETCHES
As Creative Director, my role was pivotal in orchestrating the project's vision and execution. Leveraging two initial rough sketches, I spearheaded the creation of the primary designs for the largest walls, while also establishing a foundational sketch for the team to build upon collaboratively. Crafting intricate scenes and compelling narratives for the remaining walls presented an exciting yet demanding creative endeavor, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a keen understanding of our audience.
CONCLUSION
The project was both captivating and enriching, as utilizing vinyl to craft a staircase mural was a novel experience for me, one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The team's dedication and skill resulted in a stunning mural that resonated with the entire campus community, garnering widespread admiration and appreciation
